Find out more about PageBuilder 3.0
PageBuilder was the first piece of software designed in 1997 by TaFWeb Software for use on a course in designing web pages at The Richmond Adult & Community College.
Since then PageBuilder has been developed, term by term embodying as the needs of the students were discovered. In this way PageBuilder has become increasingly user-friendly while allowing the users complete freedom in the way they develop their web pages.
In PageBuilder you will find toolbar buttons for almost every HTML tag (including those new ones introduced in HTML4). For the more complex tags, such as tables, images, lists, etc., construction dialogs are used. By this means the user is always aware of the various attributes which can be used with a particular tag. Keyboard shortcuts are used for the most common tags.
PageBuilder Main Screen
PageBuilder incorporates an internal browser (actually Internet Explorer) and with a click of the mouse you can view your pages as they will be seen in the internet. A toolbar button also allows you to launch your web page in Netscape Navigator if this is installed on your machine.
Apart from straight HTML PageBuilder also has facilities to create cascading style sheets. In line with the philosophy of the rest of PageBuilder, the users are presented with all the possible choices and can therefore easily pick out the required attributes for each part of their style sheet.
PageBuilder is not just an HTML editor. A tag-checker is built into the program and this will quickly catch many of the common HTML errors such as missing end tags, badly nested tags, etc. Other facilities helpful to the web page author include colouring of tags, a web page analyser which will check that all the images in your page are present on your computer and that the links link to pages which also exist. Once your pages are complete you can also check the time they will take to download at various modem speeds.
To help you manage your web site, a built-in "publisher" allows you to insert user-defined codes into your pages which will be replaced when the page is published for the internet. For example, you can set up a code which will automatically insert the date and time the document was published. If you use more than one website, you can also insert conditional codes which will be replaced by different text depending upon the website the page is intended for. An example of this kind of use is to insert the name of the web page host automatically.
Users gave a huge "thumbs up" to the previous version of PageBuilder, well over 10,000 copies being downloaded. In addition the (External) NoNags Software Site gave it their highest rating (6 - The Best) and the (External) ZDNet Software Library gave it their top 5-star rating. PageBuilder 3.0 looks set to be even more popular than its predecessor.
IMPORTANT NOTE: PageBuilder requires certain files which are installed by Internet Explorer 3 and later versions. Please do not install PageBuilder if Internet Explorer is not installed on your computer because it won't work!
