The difference between Windows 10 and Windows 7 is that Windows 10 won’t bug you in installing an antivirus in the system. Ever since Windows 8 was introduced, the OS now comes with a pre-installed antivirus known as Windows Defender. Is the antivirus itself effective in protecting computer?
Even further, is it more than enough to prevent and get rid of malware from one’s computer?

Good Enough?

Whenever Windows 10 is installed, expect the built-in antivirus to run in the background. Obviously, Windows 10 comes with Windows Defender out of the box. It automatically runs a scan on programs being opened, downloads the latest definitions to its database, and offers a user-friendly UI for comprehensive scans. The best part? It won’t hog your system memory. It stays out of your way a majority of the time —- which can’t be said for other third party antiviruses.

To keep things short, yes. Windows Defender is sufficient enough as an antivirus. But to ensure an enhanced security, another anti-malware should be installed.

Other Antiviruses

Security is beyond just looking through protection scores. Other known antivirus software can occasionally perform better. But they tend to load a user with a lot of bloatware. For instance, browser extensions are offered which make one less safe, registry cleaners that perform poorly, lots of questionable junk, and tracking your own browsing habits. All these are nothing but money-driven means to get a user to buy into their program.

Windows Defender avoids such things. It does one thing really well — free of charge. And it doesn’t get in the user’s way. In addition, Windows 10, comes with other well-known protection measures that were already brought through Windows 8. For instance, its SmartScreen filter prevents one from downloading and executing malware, regardless of the antivirus being used.

If Windows Defender is something to dislike for some reason and prefer using another antivirus, it’s recommended to go for some worthy ones. An example would be Avira or AVG.

Malwarebytes: A Perfect Antivirus Partner

While having an antivirus is essential, these days, it’s always good to have an anti-exploit program. The program works by protecting one’s web plugins and browser, which are frequently the main targets for hackers. Malwarebytes happen to be best free app to recommend.

Malware deploys a totally different strategy in protecting a PC user. While an antivirus is meant to quarantine or block harmful programs from making its way to a computer, Malwarebytes will do whatever it can to prevent harmful programs reaching the computer initially. The app won’t get in the way of any antivirus.

So there it is. Through a combination of adequate antivirus, Malwarebytes, and common sense, a user can guarantee PC protection. While having a great digital hygiene won’t replace what an antivirus does, it’s critical that a user’s antivirus can do the job well.
