Using RandScriptz to Randomize a Layout
Back    Next

Part 2 - Creating the Script

While it is possible to create the script manually using Notepad or a similar text editor, it is far from being the best way! Our RandScriptz program makes the whole task much easier. Once you've downloaded and installed RandScriptz take the following steps to create your script.

In RandScriptz click the New button on the toolbar (or right-click and choose New script. You will be prompted to enter a name for your script, which should be the same as the name you gave to the Settings you saved at the end of the last section of this tutorial (Proteus Yard in my case).

You can now start entering the lists of locomotives, wagons, coaches, etc. which you will remember were placed on a small unlandscaped layout and saved as ProteusConsists in the previous page of the tutorial. To enter a list of KUIDs click the Insert List button on the toolbar (or select Insert List from the right-click context menu). At the top of the dialog box which now appears, select the name of the Settings which contains your consists (ProteusConsists in my case). For Proteus Yard I used two lists, the first one containing all the possible locomotives, the second one containing all the possible wagons. In the dialog box, select Consist 0 and List 0 (if they need selecting) and then type a descriptive name for this list (e.g. Locomotives) and then click OK.

In the same way, click the Insert List button again and enter the details for the second list (Wagons).

You are now ready to start Entering the Randomization Data...
