In 1998 we released a free application called Web Page Analyser. This application, which would scan a web document or set of documents on your hard disk and produce a report detailing the links and images included in the document(s), marking any that appeared to point to non-existent sources. This was particularly useful when uploading a series of pages to your web site and you wanted to be sure that you were also uploading all the necessary graphics files. However, many of you asked us to extend Web Page Analyser's usefulness by making it also check pages on the internet - so we have produced LinkProver! LinkProver builds on the experience we gained with Web Page Analyser, and all the old features are still present, but the following changes have been made:

• External links (http:// and ftp://) can now be checked on-line.
• You can now check your remote site to ensure that all the required files have been uploaded.
• Choose whether to check internal links only or whether to test external links also.
• See the results of checks as they take place, not just in the final report.
• Optionally create an HTML report as well as a text report.

Changes in Version 2.1d

• All advertising removed.

• There is now no need to select a file from the file list before checking a web site on-line.
• A number of minor improvements to improve handling of external links which contain "#name" directives.

• Uses an improved method of caching downloaded files
• Cacheing can be disabled if required.
• A number of minor improvements.

• LinkProver now shows the time taken to contact each external link.
• An option is now given to display the information returned by each external link (headers)
• Open any external URL directly from the Links report page into your default browser.
• HTML reports improved.
• Fixed bug which caused LinkProver to ignore links which contained linefeeds.

Please note that previous versions of LinkProver incorporated advertising. We have now decided to rely entirely on on-site advertising to keep our software free. Please help us in this aim by clicking on our sponsors' advertisements. If you have installed a previous version of LinkProver you are advised to uninstall it before installing the latest version in order to remove the advertising software from your computer.
