ScriptMaker TutorialThe [Listing] PageThe [Listing] Page shows you the result of compiling your script. A file listbox shows the contents of the Output directory (normally just the file SETUP.EXE unless you chose disk spanning. If you need to, you can refresh the listing by clicking the Refresh button. ScriptMaker also gives you some information about the total size of the original files in the installation, the size of the resulting installation files and a percentage compression figure. Note that this may be a negative figure, since the installation file needs to include files for its own use. Where your original files were small or highly compressed the final setup may in fact be larger than the total of the original files.
Testing the Setup FileOnce you have created a setup file you can test it by clicking the Test Setup button beside the output directory list. This will launch the installation file and let you install the program in the usual way. You can also select Test Setup by right-clicking the output directory file list and choosing it from the context menu.If you have copied the setup to floppy disk(s) you can test the setup file from the floppy disk in the same way by using the Test Setup from Drive button. Note that this button is only visible after you have used the Copy to Drive button. By default the floppy disk drive is assumed to be drive A:, but a drop-down list allows you to select a different drive letter.
Removing an Installed SetupOnce you have tested the installation you can quickly remove it by clicking the Remove Setup button (or choosing Remove Setup from the output directory file list context menu). ScriptMaker will attempt to find the appropriate uninstall file and launch it. If it fails to find the uninstall file it will launch the Add/Remove Programs applet so that you can attempt to uninstall it yourself. You can also launch the Add/Remove Programs applet by right-clicking the output directory file list and choosing Add/Remove Programs from the context menu.
Deleting, Moving, Copying and Renaming FilesAlso available from the output directory list context menu are the items to Copy, Move, Rename and Delete files. Select the file or files you want to operate on before right-clicking the file list. Note that if you choose Delete the files will be deleted without further queries. You can, however, choose whether the files should be permanently deleted or sent to the Recycle Bin by using the check box at the bottom of the page. To quickly delete all the files in the output directory, use the Delete All button below the file list.If you choose to copy or move a file ScriptMaker will show a list of directories so that you can choose the location you want to copy/move the file to. If you choose to rename a file, ScriptMaker will ask you to type in the new name for the file. It is not possible to copy and rename a file in one operation. If you want to copy (or move) the installation file(s) to floppy disk or CD, you can use the Copy to Drive button (or the Move to Drive button), selecting the appropriate drive letter first if necessary. If disk spanning has been used you will be prompted to change disks when necessary. If additional files have been selected, these will also be copied to the first floppy disk.
Creating a Zip FileIf you have copied additional files to the Output Directory, you may want to create a zip file containing the setup executable and the extra files. This can be simply done by highlighting the files you want to include in the zip file and clicking the Create Zip File button. A dialog will pop up asking you for the name and path for the zip file and the required compression level. Compression levels run from 0 (no compression) to 9 (maximum compression). The default is level 5 which gives a good compromise between speed and compression. The zip file which is created is compatible with other zip programs such as WinZip. You should note that there are no frills to this zip facility such as adding path names, etc.The zip facility requires a file zipdll.dll which is included as a part of the download, and is automatically installed in the Windows System folder when ScriptMaker is installed. For more details about this file, please see the About box in ScriptMaker.
